diffrent ways of spiking the ball.

Different ways of spiking the ball.

Disclaimer

This is not to teach you how to hit the balls but the different ways that you could hit the volleyball.

the are 5 different types of hits

The Bounce-hard

the Cross-hard

the Angle -easy

the Line -easy

then the tip -easy

A bounce ball is when the ball is hit before the 10 foot line with enough force to make it bounce.

a cross is hitting the ball  in the 10 foot line but at an angle.

an angle hit is when the hitter is hitting past the 10 foot line and at an angle

line is hitting the ball in a straight line

a tip is barely putting and force

Each was labeled differently based on the difficulty and the steps.

the ones named easy are the one you will see the most used by lower experienced volleyball players and as they grow you will see them hit the harder one. But they are also easy because they have less steps and less strain on the body.

The cross and bounce are the hardest because they will make you push harder, use a lot of stamina and some even make you do weird hand movements which if done wrong can cause pain.

when to use a different hit.

there is no better one but there is a time to use the different versions of the hits. For example if you are getting blocked by three blockers and there is a gap open to hit the ball you can either hit the gap which is usually a straight line or you could tip the ball over the blockers. If you are late to the hit you can tip. The blockers are early and they are lower than you. You could try to bounce the ball, angle the ball or even hit the ball in a straight line.  no blockers then you have to be able to spot where there are less players and hit it there (spiking the ball isn't all about hitting the ball full force it's about placement and strategy). If there are three blockers and you want to try and hit the ball again then try tipping it off a blockers hand and recovery and start again.

Overall

It's up to the player when they think it's a good time to use a different version of a spike.
