The rules of the court

          Rules of the court

In this blog post we will be going over something that everyone needs to know if they want to play

volleyball, THE RULES!

before we get to the rules we need to know the court it self

The full court is 18 meters or 60ft with each team's court 9 feet each. Each team's court will have an attack

line at the 10ft from the net. Then in the  middle of court is your net with the out of bound antennas which

mark the out of  bounds for players, at each end of the court that mark the out of bounds for back row

players.

that makes up the court.

the game is played best of 3 in JV and best of 4 in Varsity each set go until 25 or until one team beats the

other team by two(Thats called a duce)

now lets start getting to the rules

court rules

          player set-up

At all times a team should have six people on the court  each with a number ranging through 1-6 to

determine their place on the court.

The side on the right is when you are serving first this should be the lineup of the players depending on

their number, on the right side that is the way the line up for when they  are receiving the ball. A quick note

is that the player that is in the 1 spot will be serving first for the first rotation.

Now that you have seen the way players are supposed to line-up in the beginning of the game and who

serves first lets learn the rotations

Rotating is when you number moves spots for example lets say that it's the first serve of the game and one

your  server hits the ball outside and the other team gains possession but on the next serve the other team

hits the ball out to and you gain possession of the ball, you rotate and now two is in the serving position

and one is in middle back row. The only time when you rotate is when regaining possession of the ball.

When rotating players go to the left until they hit the end of the row, for back row players they go to the

front and front row players go to the back.  For rotations you always have to remember where you are at

all times because if you end up moving to a different spot you will be called out of rotation.

Next is out of bounds

so everywhere in red is called out of bounds but see how i didnt mark the out lines in red that is because

lines still called as in a small bit of the volleyball could touch that line and still be called in so make sure to

flow that ball to make sure. Something else to note is that if the ball is going out and you hit the ball and

that ball still falls out on your side that is called out on you and the other team gets a point. You aren't

trapped by the lines; you can go over the out of bounds lines at any time to receive a ball. Something

else to note is that if the ball hits the ground on you court its classified as a dead ball and you lose a point.

Next is antennas

This image shows how the antennas look like there are two on the net at all times, one on the left and right

of the net placed above the out-of -bounds lines. if those are hit by the ball at any point that is declared a

dead ball and whoever hits the ball their team loses that point.

Next is net touches and stepping over the the net line

To start off stepping over the net line if any of your body crosses that line you are declared as obstructing

the other team's game and you lose that point. Now the net touches if any of your body touches the net at

any given time you will lose that point. It doesn't matter if you do it on purpose or by accident you will lose

points for both violations.

Next on the chopping block are players ' rules.

To start off the receiving rules, each player can touch the ball once in succession and each team has three

receivers to get the ball over the net. So let's say that player one hits the ball then player one can't hit the

ball again until another player hits the ball. If any team hits the ball four times they lose a point. Finally

something to note is that you can't hold or lift the ball. You have to do everything really quickly. This reall

matters for players called setters.

Blocking rules

a block is classified as a person stopping a spiker at the net and hitting it back to the other teams

sideA block doesn't count as a hit. Something else to note is that if the ball is blocked and you were on your

last device the receive count restarts.

Next it back row hitting

when trying to hit the back row you can't jump in front of the attack line you have to jump before hitting the

attack line(it's ok if you land past the attack line) also players are allowed to come from the out of bounds area

and jump into the attack box.  as shown on the picture.

Serving rules

a player must serve from behind the end line and they aren't allowed to touch the endline when serving

when serving if the ball is stopped by the net or goes under the net that is a failed serve and you will lose that

serve. There is also a serving clock that lasts 8 seconds after the ref whistles you to serve. Something not that is

really important is that when serving  you have one reattempt and the toss of the serve but make sure that the ball

lands in front of you and make sure not to catch the ball before it lands.
